Another US university in visa fraud row

Tri Valley university scam left several students from India high and dry, another American varsity with a significant Indian population, has run into trouble after its CEO was charged with visa fraud.
Jerry Wang, 34, the CEO of Sunnyvale California-based Herguan University and the University of East-West Medicine has been charged in a San Jose District Court with a 15 count indictment on visa fraud including that he forged federal documents to allow foreign students to enter and stay in the US.

Federal agents raided the Herguan University in California and arrested Wang on Thursday. Wang faces a maximum penalty of up to 85 years in prison if convicted of all charges. He could also have to pay a fine of up to a million dollars.

Wang's father and mother have also been named in the 10-page indictment, which alleges that between 2007 and 2011, they submitted false transfer letters and forged other visa documents required for non-immigrant students to the US Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Programme (SEVP).

The Wangs collected tuition fees and other payments from Herguan students in exchange for maintaining their false student visa records.

The case could spell trouble for the about 450 students of Herguan, most of whom are from India. A photograph on the university's website shows some graduating students, half of whom are Indians.

The university however wrote on its website that the charges against Wang have not affected Herguan and that Wang has resigned from his post.

The university is "open and and conducting classes as usual. Government charges against the Designated School Official, who has resigned, regarding immigration issues, have not affected the University. Students will find classes scheduled as usual," it said.

Chick-fil-A restaurants mobbed -stance on same-sex marriage faces test

Conservative leaders from across America described the chicken-crazed chaos.

Jim Sedlak of the American Life League said that “our little Chick-Fil-A in Stafford, Virginia was absolutely mobbed at lunch time,” forcing hungry families to journey over from nearby parking lots.

“They have a very little parking lot, but it was just absolutely mobbed today. It was terrific,” Sedlak told LifeSiteNews.com over the telephone. He said the drive through line “snaked almost twice around the building” and, “from the size of the bags people were carrying out, purchasing LOTS of food.”

The mainstream media has also picked up on the frenzy. Fox News points out that a Chick-fil-A sandwich is also a sign of freedom:

It used to be that taking a bite of a chicken sandwich just meant you were hungry. Now it has become a symbol of whether you stand for or against same-sex marriage, or – alternately – the right to express your personal views without fear of retaliation.

At Chick-fil-A locations across the country, people voted with their wallets today, coming out to express support for the fast-food chain after CEO Dan Cathy said in an interview that he is a firm backer of traditional marriage.

Chris Johnson sees a double standard. “He (Dan Cathy) said the exact same thing that President Obama said,” Johnson told Fox News -- referring to the president’s past opposition to gay marriage – “And he gets negativity, and Obama gets positivity.”

While our neighbours to the south expressed their freedom of speech while enjoying an assortment of chicken goodies, it wasn't all good news for conservative Americans today. Aug. 1 is also the first day of the Obama healthcare mandate.

Cultural and Educational Enrichment Project (CEEP)

The Details

What is the Cultural and Educational Enrichment Project?

There are five major components of CEEP that keep the students pretty busy. They are:

· The Cultural Enrichment Program provides information, in a four-day, structured environment, about our community, state, country and people. It is hosted by the English as a Second Language Dept. of Central WA University. Our organization secures speakers/leaders in our community to present information on a wide range of topics, e.g., Native Americans, visiting local/U.S. historical places, daily ESL, life in America, role of volunteers, local economy, role of government, orientation to the Business Week program, etc.

· The Business Week program is an educational opportunity where the students learn all aspects of being an entrepreneur, succeeding as business people, as well as the life skills of leadership, teamwork and goal setting. This program is conducted by business CEOs, not university professors. It is, however, held on the Central Washington University campus. The students live in the dormitory with an American room-mate.

o Follow-up visits to local businesses: purpose is to see first hand and talk with the owner on issues they had in establishing a small business, e.g., long-haul trucking of hay, beauty shop, soap-making, the wind energy site, alternative fuel, computing services, gift store, etc. This is done apart from BW.

· Program participants are given an opportunity to observe and participate in a variety of scheduled volunteer service activities. These include such places as Habitat for Humanity, Community Food Bank, hospital support help, or dispensing coffee at freeway rest areas. Host families are active in volunteer work and the students may participate with them as well, e.g., weekly guitar playing with host dad at a nursing home, community chorus group, etc.

· Because of hosting youth from contaminated areas in Belarus, health and dental care will be made available with needs taken care of within limitations of program and insurance.

o Medicine Care Package: local business/pharmacies/individuals provide over-the-counter medicines and personal care items for each program participant to take home.

· And to make all of this a success, our compassionate families who volunteer to host the Belarusian students are willing to open their homes and hearts for the summer visit. These families provide sightseeing opportunities to further enlighten the student to our culture and to show the beauty of the state of WA.

When is it:

June 30 – August 4. This timeframe may vary by a day or two as we do not yet have confirmed flight reservations.

Where is it:

The Cultural and Educational Enrichment Project (CEEP) takes place in Ellensburg, WA USA.

What does it cost:

The hosting organization must raise about $10,000 each year to pay for flight transportation, health insurance, and some program costs. Housing and meals are provided by the host family. The selected applicants chosen to travel to the U.S., will pay their U.S. visa fees.

Justin Bieber Singer Anger Passenger - Famous Singer

Justin Bieber may have millions of fans around the world but that shouldn't excuse him from behaving on an airplane, at least according to one passenger. While on a first class flight from Australia to the U.S., the singer and his entourage were reportedly throwing around a string of curse words when another passenger, a mother of two, stepped in.

A source told TMZ that the woman asked for him to "stop yelling curse words and using that kind of language on a plane. It's not appropriate." Embarrassed, Bieber quickly apologized.
The scolding comes not long after Bieber was slammed by his Los Angeles neighbors, celebrity couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, for "the music and the parties and the paparazzi. It's like living in Lebanon now," Shepard said on The View earlier this week. When asked if he had ever gone over to ask them to keep it down, Shepard said, "I know myself well enough  once I go over to the neighbor's house, all hell's breaking loose." The couple admits they could be wrong about the music coming from Bieber's house, but probably not. "We just know since he moved in, the music has been blaring," added Bell. "And it's not like super late-night parties, it's just a lot of music, all the time. But the paparazzi thing is really annoying because that's not our thing.
